U.S. SKI and Snowboard officials have provided a major update on the health of legendary alpine skier Lindsey Vonn.

Vonn, 41, broke her left leg in a horrific crash during the downhill event at the 2026 Winter Olympics on Feb. 8.

Her crash early on in the run left fans and commentators devastated after what she fought through to get there.

Vonn was airlifted off the Cortina slopes and briefly taken to a local clinic before being transferred to the Ca’ Foncello hospital in Treviso.

It was there where she had surgery on her left leg fracture on Sunday according to The Associated Press.

She then underwent a second operation to prevent problems linked to swelling and blood flow afterwards.

Anouk Patty, chief of sport for U.S. Ski and Snowboard, released a statement giving an update on Vonn’s status.

She said, “She’ll be OK, but it’s going to be a bit of a process.

“This sport’s brutal and people need to remember when they’re watching (that) these athletes are throwing themselves down a mountain and going really, really fast.”

The Ca’Foncello hospital also provided a statement on Vonn’s health after the surgery.

They said Vonn was being “treated by a multidisciplinary team” and “underwent an orthopedic operation to stabilize a fracture reported in her left leg.”

It has been a tough few weeks for the Team USA legend after she ruptured her left ACL a week before the games began.

Despite such a devastating injury, it didn’t seem to hamper Vonn in any practice runs she did whatsoever.

Her love for ski racing pushed her out of retirement after a partial knee replacement and she wasn’t going to let the ACL tear stop her either.

Unfortunately for the two-time Olympic gold medallist, her final return to the sport she loves is all but over after her latest crash.

The president of International Ski Federation Johan Eliasch paid tribute to Vonn when speaking to reporters.

Eliasch said, “Tragic, but it’s ski racing I’m afraid. I can only say thank you for what she has done for our sport.

“Because this race has been the talk of the Games and it’s put our sport in the best possible light.

“I hope she will have a speedy recovery and be back on skis very soon.”
