Harrison Ford Opens Up About Fatherhood Later in Life and Shares a Sweet Admission About His Son Liam

Harrison Ford became visibly emotional as he accepted the Life Achievement Award at the 32nd Annual Actor Awards (Formerly the Sag Awards) in Los Angeles on Sunday, March 1.

The 83-year-old actor received the honor from close friend Woody Harrelson, who praised Ford’s decades-long career and lasting impact on the industry.

Harrelson described the “Star Wars” alum as an “iconic actor” with “an indescribable energy he brings to everything he does.” Ford, joined at the ceremony by his wife, Calista Flockhart, reflected on his career and the people who supported him along the way.

At one point during his speech, Ford expressed gratitude to his “extraordinary, beautiful wife” and his family. “Who have given me love and courage through all of it,” he said as the audience applauded.

Ford became choked up as he addressed the cheering audience and described himself as a “lucky guy.” Before taking the stage, he and Flockhart shared a kiss on the red carpet.

Flockhart made a rare red carpet appearance to support her husband at the 2026 ceremony. The couple, who married in 2010, have been together for more than two decades.

The “Ally McBeal” star, 61, wore a black Zuhair Murad dress paired with Leviev earrings. The pair posed closely for photographers, appearing relaxed and affectionate.

A body language expert has dissected the couple’s cozy appearance at the Actor Awards, noting their ‘biggest cue of close affection’ was one not immediately apparent at first glance, according to the Daily Mail.

The couple previously appeared together on the red carpet at the 2025 Emmy Awards. While both maintain high-profile careers, they have largely kept their relationship private.

Harrison Ford Reflects on Fatherhood and Family Life

Ford and Flockhart share a son, Liam Flockhart Ford, 25. Flockhart adopted Liam in 2001 before meeting Ford. After the couple married in 2010, Ford officially adopted him.

In a 2008 interview with Reader’s Digest, via People, Ford spoke about becoming a father again later in life. “She’s brought a child back into my home,” he said of Flockhart.

“It’s a wonderful opportunity to be part of a child’s growing up, which is always an endless springtime.”

Ford added, “[Calista] devoted herself to Liam and has done a really wonderful job raising him. I’m happy to now have a part of the job.”

In a 2010 interview with Parade, Ford said of fatherhood, “I wasn’t expecting it at all. The unexpected part was certainly true and the joy part is also true.”

He also told The Independent in 2010, “I’ve got five kids in total, so it’s not my first rodeo. My older children have taught me a lot about parenting. My first child was born when I was 25. I reckon I’m a little better at it now.”

Ford shares four older children — Ben and Willard with first wife Mary Marquardt, and Malcolm and Georgia with second wife Melissa Mathison.
