The Grey\u2019s Anatomy and\u00a0Euphoria<\/span>\u00a0star, 53,\u00a0died Thursday after a courageous battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis<\/span>\u00a0(ALS), nearly a year after publicly revealing his diagnosis.<\/p>\n

In the wake of his passing,\u00a0Netflix<\/span>\u00a0added the new documentary to its library, giving fans an intimate look at Dane\u2019s final reflections.<\/p>\n

The 50-minute film, titled Famous Last Words: Eric Dane, was recorded in secret with the understanding it would only be released posthumously, according to reports.<\/p>\n

Dane went on to\u00a0explain that he wanted to share four final lessons he had learned from his illness and asked them to listen closely.<\/p>\n

\u2018First, live now, right now in the present. It\u2019s hard, but I learned to do that,\u2019 Dane said.<\/p>\n

\u2018For years, I would wander off mentally, lost in my head for long chunks of time, wallowing in worry and self-pity, shame and doubt. I replayed decisions, second-guessed myself. \u201cI shouldn\u2019t have done this. I never should\u2019ve done that.\u201d No more.\u2019<\/p>\n

Dane said that \u2018out of pure survival,\u2019 he was forced to stay in the present.<\/p>\n

\u2018Second, fall in love. Not necessarily with a person, although I do recommend that as well. But fall in love with something,\u2019 Dane said.<\/p>\n

\u2018Find your passion, your joy. Find the thing that makes you wanna get up in the morning.\u2019<\/p>\n

He told his\u00a0daughters he\u2019d found his love for acting at their age and urged them to pursue their passions fully.<\/p>\n

\u2018Third, choose your friends wisely. Find your people and allow them to find you, and then give yourselves to them,\u2019 the dad of two said. \u2018The best of them will give back to you. No judgement. No conditions. No questions asked.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n

Dane said he was profoundly grateful to the friends who \u2018stepped up\u2019 during his illness.<\/p>\n

\u2018Just show up. And love your friends with everything you have. Hang on to them. They will entertain you, guide you support you and some will\u00a0save you,\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n

\u2018Finally, fight with every ounce of your being and with dignity. When you face challenges, health or otherwise, fight,\u2019 he said. \u2018Never give up. Fight until your last breath. This disease is slowly taking my body, but it will never take my spirit.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018So when something unexpected hits you, and it will, because that\u2019s life, fight and face it with honesty, integrity and grace, even if it feels or seems insurmountable.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018I hope I\u2019ve demonstrated that you can face anything. You can face the end of your days. You can face hell with dignity. Fight girls,\u00a0and hold your heads high,\u2019 he continued, his voice breaking.<\/p>\n

\u2018Billie and Georgia, you are my heart. You are my everything. Good night. I love you. Those are my last words.\u2019<\/p>\n

In November, Gayheart spoke about guiding their daughters through Dane\u2019s battle with ALS\u00a0d on the\u00a0Broad Ideas\u00a0podcast.<\/p>\n

She said she\u2019s been reminding them that \u2018we show up for people no matter what\u2019 as their father\u2019s illness progresses.<\/p>\n

\u2018He is our family. He is your father,\u2019 she told them after Dane revealed his diagnosis in April.<\/p>\n

\u2018We show up, and we try to do it with some dignity\u00a0and some grace and just get through it.\u2019<\/p>\n

Still, she admitted at the time that her relationship with Dane was \u2018super complicated.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018We\u2019ve been separated for eight years. The kids live with me 100 percent of the time,\u2019 she explained.<\/p>\n

\u2018There\u2019s been lots of just stuff, other stuff, but I try to stay optimistic about it all.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018I\u2019m trying to learn from it and [be a] role model for them [for] how to go through something like this, which is really hard,\u2019 she added.<\/p>\n
